July
Special - Jump Up! : Alex Hamilton
Christiansted, St. Croix — July 8, 2011

Jump Up, held about four times each year, is a cultural celebration that takes place in the streets and along the boardwalk of Christiansted. Quickly becoming one of the islands favorite social events for both locals and visitors alike, this carnival-like party begins at 6pm and goes until about 10pm. Streets are closed, and stores and restaurants stay open late, with many offering special discounts. You will also find street vendors offering food and drink, arts and crafts, fine hand-crafted jewelry and much more.

Live music is also a big part of Jump Up. Steel drum bands and other musicians perform on many street corners. Mocko Jumbies, said to ward off evil, dance in the streets. The Mocko Jumbie has been a part of Virgin Islands culture for more than 200 years. Sample local cuisine while you listen to authentic Caribbean music.

Fishing - Annual Bastille Day Kingfish Tournament
Hull Bay Hideaway, St. Thomas — July 11, 2011

Adults and children compete in the tournament. The angler who catches the largest kingfish is awarded prize money. There are also prizes for best boat, best captain, best male angler, best junior male angler, best female angler and best junior female angler. Other prizes go to the largest Jack, largest Bonito, largest Mackerel and largest Barracuda.
