DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM HIRES MARKETING REP IN DENMARK
~Atlantic Link to promote USVI throughout Scandinavia~

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands, February 5, 2008 — The Department of Tourism has recently contracted with the Danish marketing firm Atlantic Link Aps, to handle sales and marketing of the U.S.V.I. in Denmark. Located in Copenhagen, Atlantic Link will promote the U.S.V.I. to travel agents, tour operators, airlines, media and consumers. The company will be tasked with working with the airlines to increase airlift to the territory, generating press coverage for the destination and educating travel trade about the U.S.V.I. In addition to targeting Danish travelers, Atlantic Link will direct its efforts towards the other affluent Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden and Finland.

"Having representation in Denmark is important to heightening awareness about the U.S. Virgin Islands and developing additional airline service from the region," said Tourism Commissioner, Beverly Nicholson-Doty. "The average length of stay of European visitors is a lot longer than that of Americans, so it's a lucrative market worth cultivating." Close to 8,000 Danish travelers visit the U.S.V.I. each year making Denmark the largest market for international visitors to the U.S.V.I.

Atlantic Link is a full service travel marketing company formed in 2001 by owner and manager Karin Gert Nielsen, a 24-year veteran of the travel and tourism industry. One of the company's first orders of business was representing the U.S.V.I. alongside Assistant Commissioner Monique Sibilly-Hodge and U.S.V.I. hoteliers at Ferie 08, the 26th Annual International Travel Fair in Copenhagen last month. More than 43,000 visitors attended the fair, including 320 members of the press.
